Metering Pump

What is chemical dosing pump?

A dosing pump, also known as a chemical dosing pump, is a specific type designed to inject chemicals or other dangerous substances such as alkali, corrosives, etc, precisely. Metering pumps are reciprocating positive displacement pumps, moving a fixed amount of fluid with each cycle. This allows for accurate flow rate control, which is critical in many applications, from water treatment and petrochemical to food processing.

What are metering pump and diaphragm metering pump?

A metering pump, also called a dosing pump, precisely controls the flow of liquids by using a mechanism (like a piston or diaphragm) to move specific volumes of fluid. Diaphragm metering pumps are a type of metering pump that uses a flexible diaphragm instead of a piston to create suction and pressure, making them ideal for handling harsh chemicals, slurries, and viscous liquids because the fluid never touches the internal mechanism.

Working Principle

A metering pump moves a precise volume of liquid in a specified time period providing an accurate volumetric flow rate. It functions by drawing liquid during the suction stroke with the pull back of the diaphragm hence a vacuum is created in the pump head. Liquid is drawn in from the suction side with the check valves open. On the discharge stroke, the diaphragm shall push the drawn liquid out through the discharge outlet by sealing off the check valves in the suction side and opening of check valve on the discharge side.

These alternating suction and discharge strokes are repeated over and over to meter the liquid.
